Joseph Goldstein — Equanimity: The Gateway To Enlightenment 2015–05–25

The eight worldly winds are inevitable. They are natural and normal. They include happiness and suffering, fame and insignificance, praise and blame, gain and loss.

Equanimity is a vast spacious quality that is wide and expansive.

It has the space to get close to whatever is going on. Space for you to get close to the suffering and space for compassion. Similarly, if there is joy and happiness then the spaciousness allows one to recognize to not get caught up in the joy to enjoy it but not need it. Feeling the joys and sorrows of life in this vast spacious quality of equanimity.
